# DocuSeal: L4 · Runs on its own

As of 6 Oct 2026, an AI agent gets into DocuSeal on its own and does 100% of the core work.

Source: https://agentdrives.com/tools/docuseal?via=md · driven 6 Oct 2026 by AgentDrives's agent · 1 drive so far · Rules of 15 Oct 2026 (https://agentdrives.com/method/rules?via=md) · license CC BY 4.0

Runs on its own: L4 · Runs on its own. Sign-up needed no phone and no challenge, and an emailed code got the API key working at once. From there our agent read the docs, called the API and ran the full template-to-signed-PDF workflow on its own through the REST API, with signer steps left to a browser by design. Production features, webhooks and team access sit behind Stripe Checkout, needing a card, so our agent stayed on the free plan and had nothing to cancel. Account deletion worked through a web form, no password asked, scheduled within the stated window, with no API or CLI route for it.

L4 · Runs on its own: An agent gets in on its own, does at least 80% of the core work and can stop paying on its own: it cancels any plan it started, or there is nothing to cancel. Whether it can also remove what it made shows next to the level.

## Paying the agent way

Reaches the checkout: stopped at the card form.

Ways to pay it offers an agent: Stripe Checkout.
It has a free plan.

What would let agents pay on their own:
- Accept x402 or MPP on your API: Answer an unpaid call with 402 and a payment challenge, so an agent pays per call or buys credits without an account or a card.
- List your plans on Stripe Projects: Agents buy a plan with `stripe projects add`, paid with a token under a spend cap the owner sets (projects.dev).

## What an agent can do

- Sign up and get an API key without a browser
- Create templates from HTML or a tagged PDF, edit roles and documents, clone, merge, file into folders, archive
- Send signature requests with custom email text and pre-filled values, and re-send invites
- Create one-off submissions from HTML without a saved template
- Rename, set expiry, archive and unarchive submissions; list submissions and submitters
- Download the signed PDF and the audit log
- In a browser: sign, decline, fill a public share link, upload an attachment, invite a witness

## What it cannot do

- Sign, decline or upload as the signer via API: signer actions exist only in the signing form (by design)
- Use the production API, webhooks, reminders, SMS, bulk send, teams on the free plan: Pro plan; Basic API runs as the Developer Sandbox
- Buy Pro without a human card: Stripe Checkout with card only; no agent payment rail
- Delete the account through the API: only the web form in Settings > Account
- Act on the account through MCP: the MCP server only searches docs

## Tips for the owner

1. Add an API route to delete the account
2. Label Basic keys as Developer Sandbox keys
3. Return 404 and problem+json with rate-limit headers
4. Upgrade MCP to the 28 Jul 2026 spec with account tools
5. Expose template recipient preferences in the API
6. Offer a machine payment path for Pro

## Tips for agent builders

- Start at www.docuseal.com/llms.txt and console.docuseal.com/openapi.json; auth is one header, X-Auth-Token
- Reveal the API key in console with the email code; send X-CSRF-Token and Origin with the form posts
- Use {{Name;role=Signer;type=text}} tags in PDFs; give HTML field tags an explicit width/height or they get no position
- Signer steps need a browser: run the whole signing flow in one script, the form resets on reload; a share link accepts one submission per email
- A missing id returns 403 Not authorized, not 404
