# Formspree: L1 · Needs a person

As of 6 Oct 2026, an AI agent can't use Formspree on its own: reCAPTCHA picture puzzle on the sign-up form.

Needs a person to start: L1 · Needs a person. Our agent stopped first at sign-up, where Register raised a Google reCAPTCHA picture puzzle that stood unsolved. Every path to a form (dashboard, claim URL, formspree deploy with a key) runs through that account, so our agent never reached verification, a key or a form of its own; an unauthenticated POST just returned FORM_NOT_FOUND. Paying and cancelling were never reached either, since Formspree sells Professional and Business only after the same gated sign-up, with no cancel API documented. Docs stand out for an agent reading them: llms.txt with a claim-URL guide, and help articles served as Markdown.

L1 · Needs a person: There is an API, CLI or MCP server, but an agent can't get in on its own: a person has to sign up, verify or make the key. What it does once a person sets it up shows next to the level.

- Next: let an agent sign up on its own
- With an account set up by a person: not measured yet.

## Level history

- 2 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person
- 6 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person

## Part scores

- Agent-ready setup: llms.txt found, OpenAPI not found, MCP server not found, CLI found
- Not measured in this drive: Holds up, Docs match

## Who gets in

- Agents on a server: Stopped by a CAPTCHA on the sign-up form.
- Signed agents: The sign-up page opens. The CAPTCHA on the form stops them too.
- Agents in a person's browser: Not measured yet.

Sign-up page checked 12 Oct 2026. Signed agents: the ones Cloudflare verifies.

## Checkpoints

- **Docs**: Headless: llms.txt with a claim-URL guide for agents; help articles serve Markdown via Accept: text/markdown and .md
- **Sign up**: Needs a human: Web form only (no sign-up API). In the browser, Register raised a reCAPTCHA v2 image challenge.
- **Verify**: Not reached: Never reached: sign-up did not complete
- **Key**: Not reached: CLI deploy key and form API keys come only from the dashboard (API keys on Professional/Business only); no account
- **First call**: Not reached: No credentials and no form of our own; unauthenticated POST /f/<id> only returns FORM_NOT_FOUND
- **First action**: Not reached: Creating a form needs an account: dashboard, claim URL (302 to /register) or formspree deploy with a deploy key
- **Pay**: Not reached: No 402 rail, no UCP, not in the x402 Bazaar or on mpp.dev. Paid plans are bought with a card in the web app, reachable only after the captcha-gated sign-up; the payment step itself was not reached.
- **Cancel**: Not reached: No plan was started. Docs give no cancel API; the web app has a billing page (web UI). Not exercised.
- **Delete**: Not reached: No account was created. Docs: delete in the web UI (Account > Delete account, with password and 2FA), done within 24 h; no API.

## Does Formspree have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?

No. The drive found no MCP server for Formspree.

A new agent can't get in on its own: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, our agent stopped at sign up (it needs a person).

## How does an AI agent get a Formspree API key?

Not reached: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, sign-up stopped our agent first (it needs a person). CLI deploy key and form API keys come only from the dashboard (API keys on Professional/Business only); no account

## Paying the agent way

Payment not reached.

Ways to pay it offers an agent: Stripe card form (card checkout).
It has a free plan.

What would let agents pay on their own:
- Accept x402 or MPP on your API: Answer an unpaid call with 402 and a payment challenge, so an agent pays per call or buys credits without an account or a card.
- List your plans on Stripe Projects: Agents buy a plan with `stripe projects add`, paid with a token under a spend cap the owner sets (projects.dev).
From the drive of 6 Oct 2026.

## What an agent can do

- Read Formspree's docs as Markdown and its llms.txt agent guide
- Copy ready-made HTML/React form templates from the Form Library

## What it cannot do

- Create an account: Sign-up is a web form only, and Register raises a reCAPTCHA v2 image challenge
- Create a form endpoint: Every route (dashboard, claim URL, CLI deploy key) needs a signed-in account
- Read submissions via API: Needs an account, and the API is on Professional/Business plans only

## Tips for the owner

1. Let verified agents sign up
2. Let agents create unclaimed forms
3. Offer account API keys on free plan
4. Publish an OpenAPI spec

## Tips for agent builders

- Start at https://formspree.io/llms.txt: the designed agent flow is a claim URL a human opens, then pastes the /f/<id> endpoint back
- With a deploy key from a human, `formspree deploy -k <key>` over formspree.json is fully headless
- Send Accept: application/json to /f/<id> for JSON errors with codes
- Help articles serve Markdown: add .md or send Accept: text/markdown
