# Front: L1 · Needs a person

As of 6 Oct 2026, an AI agent can't use Front on its own: Phone number required on trial sign-up form.

L1 · Needs a person: front.com/signup requires a phone number our agent didn't have, so it stopped there. No CAPTCHA blocked it; the form itself did. Docs are strong for an agent: llms.txt, Markdown pages, an OpenAPI spec and an official MCP server. But tokens and MCP OAuth clients are only made by an admin inside an account, with no sign-up API, no DCR and no device flow. With no account, no call, no core work and no purchase were reached: Front never let our agent past the door.

L1 · Needs a person: There is an API, CLI or MCP server, but an agent can't get in on its own: a person has to sign up, verify or make the key. What it does once a person sets it up shows next to the level.

- Find: Docs for agents (llms.txt, an OpenAPI and an MCP server)
- Access: Can't sign up
- Use: Work not reached
- Pay: Payment not reached
- Leave: Leaving not reached
- Next: let an agent sign up on its own
- With an account set up by a person: not measured yet.

## Level history

- 1 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person
- 6 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person

## Part scores

- Agent-ready setup: llms.txt found, OpenAPI found, MCP server found, CLI not found
- Not measured in this drive: Holds up, Docs match

## Who gets in

- Agents on a server: Can't get in on their own.
- Signed agents: The sign-up page opens.
- Agents in a person's browser: Not measured yet.

Sign-up page checked 12 Oct 2026. Signed agents: the ones Cloudflare verifies.

## Checkpoints

- **Docs**: Headless: dev.frontapp.com/llms.txt, a .md version of every page, Accept: text/markdown answered with text/markdown and Vary: Accept; OpenAPI 3.0.0 Core API spec (246 operations) on GitHub; MCP server docs.
- **Sign up**: Needs a human: No sign-up API. The only route is the web form at front.com/signup (also the pricing modal and the docs' developer-account link, which redirects there). It requires a phone number and a job title. Our agent has no phone number, so we stopped. No CAPTCHA on the form.
- **Verify**: Not reached: Not reached: no account.
- **Key**: Not reached: Not reached. API tokens are made in Settings > Developers by an admin; the MCP server needs an OAuth app (client id + secret) also made in Front settings. The AS offers no DCR, no CIMD, no device flow and no agent registration.
- **First call**: Not reached: Unauthenticated calls to api2.frontapp.com and mcp.frontapp.com answer 401 with clear JSON errors.
- **First action**: Not reached: Not reached: no account.
- **Pay**: Not reached: No x402, MPP, UCP or billing API; no 402 anywhere; not in mpp.dev or the x402 Bazaar. Starter has a 14-day trial with no card (pricing FAQ), but starting it needs a phone number; Professional and Enterprise go through Request a Demo. The in-app checkout was not reached, so not observed.
- **Cancel**: Not reached: No plan or trial was started.
- **Delete**: Not reached: No account was created, so there was nothing to delete and the delete route was not tested.

## Does Front (front.com) have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?

Yes. Front has an official MCP server. The server signs an agent in with OAuth and speaks the 25 Nov 2025 MCP spec.

A new agent can't get in on its own: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, our agent stopped at sign up (it needs a person). Through the MCP server, 0 of our agent's 1 attempt worked.

## How does an AI agent get a Front (front.com) API key?

Not reached: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, sign-up stopped our agent first (it needs a person). Not reached. API tokens are made in Settings > Developers by an admin; the MCP server needs an OAuth app (client id + secret) also made in Front settings. The AS offers no DCR, no CIMD, no device flow and no agent registration.

## Paying the agent way

Payment not reached.

No card needed to start.

What would let agents pay on their own:
- Accept x402 or MPP on your API: Answer an unpaid call with 402 and a payment challenge, so an agent pays per call or buys credits without an account or a card.
- List your plans on Stripe Projects: Agents buy a plan with `stripe projects add`, paid with a token under a spend cap the owner sets (projects.dev).
From the drive of 6 Oct 2026.

## What an agent can do

- Read the full developer docs as Markdown (llms.txt, .md URLs, Accept: text/markdown)
- Read the Core API OpenAPI spec and the MCP server's OAuth metadata without an account

## What it cannot do

- Create a trial or developer account: The sign-up form requires a phone number (and a job title); there is no sign-up API.
- Get an API token or MCP access: Both are created inside a Front account (API tokens by an admin in Settings > Developers; MCP needs an OAuth app); no DCR, CIMD or device flow.
- Use any core capability (inbox, replies, status, assignment, tags): No account, so every API and MCP call answers 401.

## Tips for the owner

1. Make phone number optional at sign-up
2. Fix the developer-account sign-up link
3. Support CIMD on the MCP authorization server
4. Publish the 28 Jul 2026 MCP spec and server card
5. Add a billing API for plan changes

## Tips for agent builders

- You need a human to create the Front account (phone number at sign-up) and then an admin API token or an OAuth app.
- Docs are agent-friendly: start at dev.frontapp.com/llms.txt; every page has a .md URL.
- The MCP server needs a confidential OAuth client (id + secret); clients that only do DCR cannot connect.
- API rate limits are per company, from 50 req/min; read x-ratelimit-* headers.
