# Linear: L1 · Needs a person

As of 16 Oct 2026, an AI agent can't use Linear on its own: Visible Turnstile on email sign-up.

An agent cannot get into Linear on its own: the email sign-up shows a visible Cloudflare Turnstile and no other way in fits an agent (Google needs an account we lack, no GitHub, no API sign-up). The docs are excellent for agents (llms.txt, Markdown pages, a public GraphQL schema, an official MCP server that takes API keys), but all of it needs an account.

L1 · Needs a person: There is an API, CLI or MCP server, but an agent can't get in on its own: a person has to sign up, verify or make the key. What it does once a person sets it up shows next to the level.

- Find: Docs for agents (llms.txt and an MCP server; a docs page for each core task)
- Access: Can't sign up
- Use: Work not reached
- Pay: Payment not reached
- Leave: Leaving not reached
- Next: let an agent sign up on its own
- With an account set up by a person: not measured yet.

## Part scores

- Agent-ready setup: llms.txt found, OpenAPI not found, MCP server found, CLI not found
- Not measured in this drive: Holds up, Docs match

## Who gets in

- Agents on a server: Turned away when they send the sign-up form.
- Signed agents: The sign-up page opens. The check on the form still applies.
- Agents in a person's browser: Not measured yet.

Sign-up page checked 16 Oct 2026. Signed agents: the ones Cloudflare verifies.

## Ways in

- Email and code: Stopped by a CAPTCHA
- Email link: Not tried: the same as another way
- Continue with Google: Not tried: no account yet
- Sign-in for apps (OAuth, MCP): Not reached
- Company single sign-on: Not tried: needs a person's account
- Added by an admin: Not tried: needs a person's account

## The docs

163 of 164 pages read. Complete.

- A getting-started page
- An auth page
- Errors listed with their codes
- Code examples on some pages
- Newest page updated 15 Oct 2026
- A page for 10 of 10 core tasks

## Checkpoints

- **Docs**: Headless: llms.txt and every docs page as .md (text/markdown); GraphQL getting started, OAuth, rate limits, MCP setup and the full SDL schema are public.
- **Sign up**: Needs a human: Continue with email showed a visible Cloudflare Turnstile "Verify you are human" after the email was entered; we do not solve it.
- **Verify**: Not reached: Not reached: no login mail was sent because the Turnstile stops the form first.
- **Key**: Not reached: Not reached. API keys are made only at Settings > Account > Security & Access in the web app; the public schema has no key mutation.
- **First call**: Not reached: Not reached: the GraphQL API and the MCP server need a key or OAuth token from an account.
- **First action**: Not reached: Not reached: no account.
- **Pay**: Not reached: No agent rail: no 402 on any host, not on mpp.dev, Stripe Projects or the x402 Bazaar; we paid nothing. Plans are changed at Settings > Administration > Billing in the app (docs/billing-and-plans.md); Basic is $10 per user/month billed yearly.
- **Cancel**: Not reached: Nothing started. Docs: admins change or cancel at Settings > Administration > Billing (web UI); the change takes effect at the end of the period.
- **Delete**: Not reached: No account was created, so nothing was left. The public schema documents organizationDeleteChallenge + organizationDelete(deletionCode) for deleting a workspace by API.

## Does Linear have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?

Yes. Linear has an official MCP server. The server is hosted.

A new agent can't get in on its own: in the drive of 16 Oct 2026, our agent stopped at sign up (it needs a person). Through the MCP server, 0 of our agent's 6 attempts worked.

## How does an AI agent get a Linear API key?

Not reached: in the drive of 16 Oct 2026, sign-up stopped our agent first (it needs a person). Not reached. API keys are made only at Settings > Account > Security & Access in the web app; the public schema has no key mutation.

## Paying the agent way

Payment not reached.

The checkout: The checkout wasn't reached: Basic, $10 a month; Checkout: a checkout; No CAPTCHA at checkout.

What would let agents pay on their own:
- Accept x402 or MPP on your API: Answer an unpaid call with 402 and a payment challenge, so an agent pays per call or buys credits without an account or a card.
- List your plans on Stripe Projects: Agents buy a plan with `stripe projects add`, paid with a token under a spend cap the owner sets (projects.dev).
Ways to pay checked 16 Oct 2026.

## What an agent can do

- Read every docs page as Markdown (.md URL or Accept: text/markdown)
- Read the full public GraphQL schema without an account

## What it cannot do

- Create an account: A visible Cloudflare Turnstile appears after the email is submitted on the sign-up form
- Get an API key or call the API, MCP server or any capability: Both need an account; keys are made only in the web settings
- Pay for a plan as an agent: No x402/MPP or billing API; upgrades are in the app's billing page

## Tips for the owner

1. Let verified signed agents skip the sign-up check
2. Offer API key creation by API
3. Serve MCP discovery and protected resource metadata
4. Support MCP (the 28 Jul 2026 spec) and CIMD
5. Accept an agent payment rail for upgrades

## Tips for agent builders

- Sign-up needs a human to pass a Turnstile; once in, create a personal API key in Settings > Account > Security & Access and use it as a Bearer token on both api.linear.app/graphql and mcp.linear.app/mcp
- Rate limit errors come back as HTTP 400 with RATELIMITED in errors, not 429 (developers/rate-limiting.md)
- Every docs page has a .md twin; the full SDL schema is linked from llms.txt
