# SendGrid: L1 · Needs a person

As of 6 Oct 2026, an AI agent can't use SendGrid on its own: Cloudflare Turnstile on the sign-up form.

Needs a person stops our agent at sign-up: the only path to a key runs through login.twilio.com's web form, and a Cloudflare Turnstile "Verify you are human" check on Continue blocked it there. Docs are the strongest part of the record: llms.txt, Markdown API pages, an OpenAPI spec and a docs-only MCP server, all readable without a browser, but none of it gets past the check. Without an account there is no key, no authenticated call, and no work done. Paying needs a card added in the console, and leaving means contacting Support to delete the account.

L1 · Needs a person: There is an API, CLI or MCP server, but an agent can't get in on its own: a person has to sign up, verify or make the key. What it does once a person sets it up shows next to the level.

- Find: Some docs for agents (llms.txt and an OpenAPI)
- Access: Can't sign up
- Use: Work not reached
- Pay: Payment not reached
- Leave: Leaving not reached
- Next: let an agent sign up on its own
- With an account set up by a person: not measured yet.

## Level history

- 1 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person
- 6 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person

## Part scores

- Agent-ready setup: llms.txt found, OpenAPI found, MCP server not found, CLI found
- Not measured in this drive: Holds up, Docs match

## Who gets in

- Agents on a server: Turned away when they send the sign-up form.
- Signed agents: Not checked: its robots.txt asks crawlers to stay off the sign-up page.
- Agents in a person's browser: Not measured yet.

Sign-up page checked 12 Oct 2026. Signed agents: the ones Cloudflare verifies.

## Checkpoints

- **Docs**: Headless: twilio.com/docs/llms.txt (~341 SendGrid entries, .md pages), API reference in Markdown, OpenAPI 3.1.0 specs in github.com/twilio/sendgrid-oai, docs-only MCP at mcp.twilio.com/docs.
- **Sign up**: Needs a human: No sign-up API (Account Provisioning API is reseller-only). Web form at login.twilio.com/u/signup shows a Cloudflare Turnstile 'Verify you are human' check on Continue; our agent's browser could not submit. The page says phone verification follows email verification.
- **Verify**: Not reached: not reached: no account (sign-up stopped at Cloudflare Turnstile)
- **Key**: Not reached: API keys come from the console or POST /v3/api_keys with an existing key; no OAuth/agent registration. Not reached: no account (sign-up stopped at Cloudflare Turnstile)
- **First call**: Not reached: Unauthenticated calls answer 401 with clear JSON errors; no authenticated call possible. Not reached: no account (sign-up stopped at Cloudflare Turnstile)
- **First action**: Not reached: not reached: no account (sign-up stopped at Cloudflare Turnstile)
- **Pay**: Not reached: No 402 on api.sendgrid.com, x402./mpp./agents. subdomains do not resolve, no /.well-known/ucp, not in x402 Bazaar or mpp.dev. Docs: paid plans need a credit or debit card added in the console; no billing API. Every purchase runs through an account that needs a human past Turnstile and a phone number. Not exercised: no account.
- **Cancel**: Not reached: Docs: console only, Cancel Subscription with a 'Keep my Account' modal and a three-question survey; no billing API. No plan started.
- **Delete**: Not reached: Docs: cancel first, then contact Twilio SendGrid Support to delete the account and data. No self-serve API. No account was created.

## Does SendGrid have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?

SendGrid's docs have an MCP server for searching them. The drive found no MCP server that works the product itself. The server lists 2 tools and speaks the older 25 Nov 2025 MCP spec.

A new agent can't get in on its own: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, our agent stopped at sign up (it needs a person).

## How does an AI agent get a SendGrid API key?

Not reached: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, sign-up stopped our agent first (it needs a person). API keys come from the console or POST /v3/api_keys with an existing key; no OAuth/agent registration. Not reached: no account (sign-up stopped at Cloudflare Turnstile)

## Paying the agent way

Payment not reached.

Ways to pay it offers an agent: Card checkout.
No card needed to start.

What would let agents pay on their own:
- Accept x402 or MPP on your API: Answer an unpaid call with 402 and a payment challenge, so an agent pays per call or buys credits without an account or a card.
- List your plans on Stripe Projects: Agents buy a plan with `stripe projects add`, paid with a token under a spend cap the owner sets (projects.dev).
From the drive of 6 Oct 2026.

## What an agent can do

- Find and read the full SendGrid API reference as Markdown and OpenAPI 3.1.0 without an account
- Search SendGrid docs and API schemas through Twilio's public docs MCP server without an account

## What it cannot do

- Create an account: Cloudflare Turnstile 'Verify you are human' on the Twilio sign-up form; no sign-up API
- Get an API key or send any email: needs an account
- Delete the account headless: docs: deletion only through Support
- Buy or cancel a plan headless: card in the console only, cancel through a console survey flow; no billing API

## Tips for the owner

1. Let verified agents sign up
2. Offer an email-only free trial path
3. Add OAuth device flow for API keys
4. Document an account deletion API
5. Expose plan changes in the API
6. Move the docs MCP to the 28 Jul 2026 spec

## Tips for agent builders

- Use the docs MCP (mcp.twilio.com/docs, no auth) or the .md pages from twilio.com/docs/llms.txt to get exact request schemas; it is read-only.
- The account and first API key must come from a human: sign-up has Cloudflare Turnstile and announces phone verification.
- Use mail_settings.sandbox_mode to test /v3/mail/send without delivering mail (documented Sandbox Mode).
- Errors are JSON {errors:[{message, field, help}]}, not RFC 9457; read errors[].message.
