# Trello: L1 · Needs a person

As of 6 Oct 2026, an AI agent can't use Trello on its own: Visible reCAPTCHA on Atlassian sign-up.

Needs a person to start: Trello sits at L1, needs a person. Our agent reached the Atlassian sign-up form and stopped there: a visible reCAPTCHA Enterprise checkbox appeared after the email step, so no account got made. The key page, the MCP's OAuth login and the first API call were never reached, so no board work happened. A documented REST API and an official MCP server are both ready once a person signs up and gets a key or connects. Paying and downgrading run through the web UI with a credit card, never through an API our agent could drive.

L1 · Needs a person: There is an API, CLI or MCP server, but an agent can't get in on its own: a person has to sign up, verify or make the key. What it does once a person sets it up shows next to the level.

- Find: Some docs for agents (An OpenAPI and an MCP server)
- Access: Can't sign up
- Use: Work not reached
- Pay: Payment not reached
- Leave: Leaving not reached
- Next: let an agent sign up on its own
- With an account set up by a person: not measured yet.

## Level history

- 1 Oct 2026 (2 drives): L1 · Needs a person
- 6 Oct 2026: L1 · Needs a person

## Part scores

- Agent-ready setup: llms.txt not found, OpenAPI found, MCP server found, CLI not found
- Not measured in this drive: Holds up, Docs match

## Who gets in

- Agents on a server: Stopped by a CAPTCHA on the sign-up form.
- Signed agents: The sign-up page opens. The CAPTCHA on the form stops them too.
- Agents in a person's browser: Not measured yet.

Sign-up page checked 16 Oct 2026. Signed agents: the ones Cloudflare verifies.

## Checkpoints

- **Docs**: Headless: REST docs and OpenAPI 3.0.0 (developer.atlassian.com/cloud/trello/swagger.v3.json) fetched headless
- **Sign up**: Needs a human: No sign-up API; Atlassian web form id.atlassian.com/signup showed a visible reCAPTCHA Enterprise checkbox after the email.
- **Verify**: Not reached: No account created (blocked at sign-up)
- **Key**: Not reached: API key only via a Power-Up at trello.com/apps/admin and a token via a consent page; MCP via Atlassian OAuth (CIMD/DCR, no device flow); all need an account
- **First call**: Not reached: No credentials; /1/members/me -> 400 'invalid token', MCP -> 401
- **First action**: Not reached: No credentials
- **Pay**: Not reached: No 402/x402/MPP/UCP; no registry listings; Standard/Premium bought with a credit card in the web UI behind a reCAPTCHA-gated account; Premium free trial offered (card requirement unknown)
- **Cancel**: In a browser: Pricing FAQ: downgrade at any time in the web UI; no billing API in the OpenAPI; no plan started
- **Delete**: Not reached: No account was created

## Does Trello have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?

Yes. Trello has an official MCP server. The server is hosted and signs an agent in with OAuth.

A new agent can't get in on its own: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, our agent stopped at sign up (it needs a person). Through the MCP server, 1 of our agent's 1 attempt worked.

## How does an AI agent get a Trello API key?

Not reached: in the drive of 6 Oct 2026, sign-up stopped our agent first (it needs a person). API key only via a Power-Up at trello.com/apps/admin and a token via a consent page; MCP via Atlassian OAuth (CIMD/DCR, no device flow); all need an account

## Paying the agent way

Payment not reached.

Ways to pay it offers an agent: Card checkout.
It has a free plan.

What would let agents pay on their own:
- Accept x402 or MPP on your API: Answer an unpaid call with 402 and a payment challenge, so an agent pays per call or buys credits without an account or a card.
- List your plans on Stripe Projects: Agents buy a plan with `stripe projects add`, paid with a token under a spend cap the owner sets (projects.dev).
From the drive of 6 Oct 2026.

## What an agent can do

- Read the Trello REST docs and OpenAPI headless
- Discover the official MCP server's OAuth metadata (PRM, CIMD) headless

## What it cannot do

- Create a Trello account: Visible reCAPTCHA Enterprise on the Atlassian sign-up form; no sign-up API
- Get API credentials: API key needs a Power-Up in the web admin and a consent page; MCP needs OAuth with a signed-in account
- Drive any board, list or card capability: No account or token

## Tips for the owner

1. Let verified agents pass sign-up
2. Add device flow to the MCP OAuth
3. Issue API keys without the web admin
4. Serve llms.txt and markdown docs
5. Publish the MCP server card

## Tips for agent builders

- Once you have an account, use the official remote MCP (https://mcp.trello.com/v1, OAuth with CIMD) or REST with key+token query params
- Expect a human at sign-up (reCAPTCHA) and at the token consent page
- The OpenAPI is at developer.atlassian.com/cloud/trello/swagger.v3.json (3.0.0, served as text/plain)
