What stops agents in email marketing.
In our drives, sign-up is where this category stops agents: it was the first checkpoint our agent did not pass at 6 of 8 products. At 6 of 8 products, a bot check stopped our signed agent on at least one way in. ActiveCampaign, Kit and MailerLite show a Cloudflare "Verify you are human" challenge. beehiiv answers with a Cloudflare block page, and Mailchimp's reCAPTCHA showed an image puzzle. Klaviyo's form also requires a phone number. At these products, keys come only from inside an account.
Our agent gets into Brevo and Buttondown on its own. Buttondown is at L4 · Runs on its own: our agent passed every checkpoint on its own. It then drafted, scheduled and sent emails through the API, each read back. Brevo is at L2 · Gets in: our agent signed up in a browser, confirmed its email and got an MCP token through OAuth. It then created a contact and read it back. Sending needs Brevo's manual activation. At Brevo and Buttondown, getting the key still took a browser.
The products that got through let a signed agent finish their sign-up form. Buttondown's form shows no challenge, so our agent finished it on the first try, and an API key is created at sign-up. Brevo's form showed no challenge either, and our agent got through. That form is the step where the other products stopped our agent.
