Tips for agent builders

From this drive

5 tips
  1. Install with LISTMONK_ADMIN_USER, LISTMONK_ADMIN_PASSWORD and LISTMONK_ADMIN_API_USER on ./listmonk --install; the API token is printed to stderr
  2. Authenticate with the header Authorization: token user:token (or BasicAuth)
  3. Send "messenger":"email" on campaign create and test calls
  4. Create the uploads folder next to the binary before POST /api/media
  5. Pass before_date as an RFC 3339 query parameter to the maintenance deletes

Questions people ask about listmonk

Can an AI agent sign up for listmonk on its own?
Yes, over the API, without a browser. listmonk is self-hosted software with no hosted edition: the account is the agent's own install. ./listmonk --install with LISTMONK_ADMIN_USER/LISTMONK_ADMIN_PASSWORD created the Super Admin (docs/installation).
Does listmonk have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?
Not an official one. The drive found only third-party MCP servers for listmonk. The server runs on the agent's own machine and lists 18 tools. A new agent can get in on its own: in the drive of 26 Oct 2026, our agent signed up and got its key without a person.
How does an AI agent get a listmonk API key?
In the drive of 26 Oct 2026, our agent got its listmonk API key over the API, without a browser or a person. LISTMONK_ADMIN_API_USER at --install printed the API token to stderr. A scoped API user with a limited role is only documented in the admin UI (done in the browser, used, revoked).
Can an AI agent delete its listmonk account?
Not applicable: our agent used listmonk without an account, and it deletes what it made.
Can an AI agent pay for listmonk?
No plan to buy.
