What it is
An MCP server lists a product's actions as tools: create a contact, send an invoice, search the docs. An agent connects, reads the list and calls the tools it needs. The current revision of the protocol is 2026-07-281.
A server runs on the user's machine and talks over stdio, or runs on the web and talks over Streamable HTTP.2
How many products have one
130 of 151 products we drove have an MCP server, and 125 of them run an official one. For 5, only someone else's server exists.
A server doesn't let an agent in by itself. Of the 130 with a server, our agent got into 46 on its own. At 84, sign-up or the key stopped it before it could call a tool.
How to add it
Serve it over Streamable HTTP.
Each message is an HTTP POST to one endpoint.2 Put it next to your API, for example at
/mcp, so an agent on a server can reach it.Let an agent sign in on its own.
A remote server must publish OAuth protected resource metadata, as RFC 9728 describes.3 Accept Client ID Metadata Documents so an agent needs no person to register it.3 The MCP sign-in guide has the steps.
Make it easy to find.
Link the server from your docs and your llms.txt. The official MCP Registry lists public servers; it is in preview4.
Check it yourself
Connect from a client that runs on a server.
Add your server's URL to an MCP client and list its tools. If it asks a person to click through a sign-in, an agent can't finish it alone.
Run a free check.
It shows how far an agent gets with your product, MCP server included. Check yours free.
