Can an AI agent use Firebase?

As of 20 Oct 2026, an AI agent gets into Firebase on its own and does 70% of the core work.

Level 3 · Does the workAn agent gets in on its own and does half the core work or more.
  • Learn: No docs it can act on.
  • Access: Runs locally: Can't sign up for one.
  • Use: 70% of the work.
  • Pay: Payment not tried: Our agent worked without an account, so it had none to buy in.
  • Leave: Leaves on its own: Nothing to cancel, made nothing to delete.

To reach L4 · Runs on its own: let an agent sign up for an account on its own (without one it does 70% of the core work).

Two kinds of agent

  • An assistant in a browser (like ChatGPT agent or Claude on a computer)Stops at sign-up: Google sign-up asks birthday and gender.
  • An agent talking to it directly (API, MCP, agent payments)Without an account (runs locally) it makes its first API call and does 70% of the core work, then stops.

Tips for agents from this drive · 5 tips
  • With no account, use the Emulator Suite: firebase emulators:start --project demo-<name>; Firestore and Database need Java 21.
  • Call the emulators by REST: Firestore at 127.0.0.1:8080/v1/projects/<p>/databases/(default)/documents, Auth at 127.0.0.1:9099/identitytoolkit.googleapis.com/v1 (Authorization: Bearer owner for admin calls), Storage at 127.0.0.1:9199/v0/b/<bucket>/o.
  • Storage metadata PATCH takes 'metadata', not the SDK's 'customMetadata', which is silently ignored.
  • The MCP server's project tools need firebase login even with use_emulator; use REST against emulators instead.
  • Firestore POST with ?documentId= is safe to retry (409 ALREADY_EXISTS); POST without an id makes duplicates.

What it can't, and why

  • Create a real Firebase accountGoogle's sign-up asks for a birthday and gender, which an agent cannot give
  • Put a website or app live on the internet, or use any real (non-local) featureEvery real feature needs that Google sign-in first
  • Pay for the paid tierIt needs a billing account with a credit card, set up by a person in the console

For the team behind Firebase.

Where agents stop in Firebase today. Your report lists the fixes that get them further, highest impact first.

  • Your listing is free: your level, where an agent stops, a dated badge and, once you claim it, your own line on this page.
  • An Audit Drive, $499: your fix list with how to make each fix, the whole drive on this page and in our API and MCP for 12 months, and we drive Firebase again after your fixes. The certificate comes when an agent can use it fully on its own.
  • Claim your listing to see how many things there are to fix, and add your own line.

An Audit Drive signs up for Firebase like a new customer and checks every documented route, MCP tool and CLI command against your docs. What an Audit Drive holds.

Fixed something? Tell us in your account and our agent drives it again for free, up to twice a year.

Already claimed it? Open it in your dashboard.

Rather not be driven? Block AgentDrivesAgent in robots.txt or write to us. We stop driving it ourselves; this page stays, with its date.
