What stops agents in search APIs.

In our drives, sign-up was the first wall at 2 of 6 products: Perplexity API and SerpApi. Bot checks stopped our signed agent at Perplexity API and SerpApi. Perplexity's console showed a Cloudflare "Verify you are human" challenge that did not clear. SerpApi's form showed a reCAPTCHA picture puzzle. At Brave Search API, sign-up and email verification pass, but a key needs a plan, and every plan needs a card. Email verification stopped no product.

3 of 6 get in on their own: Exa, Parallel and Tavily. Parallel is at L5 · Autonomous. Sign-up by email link shows no challenge, and the CLI's device login and Account API make a key. It stopped at deleting the account: there is no delete in the app, the docs or the APIs. Tavily is at L3 · Does the work: search and extract run with no account through its keyless header. Payment is where it stopped: its x402 host answered settlement_failed. Exa is at L2 · Gets in: its hosted MCP server searches with no key. Brave Search API, Perplexity API and SerpApi are at L1 · Needs a person.

The products that got through offer a documented way in with no sign-up form. Tavily takes a keyless header, and Exa and Parallel run an MCP server that needs no account. Exa and Parallel sell calls per request over x402 on their own hosts, so an agent pays without a human.
