Firebase vs Supabase for AI agents
As of 20 Oct 2026, Firebase gets an AI agent further: L3 · Does the work against L1 · Needs a person.
- Learn: No docs it can act on.
- Access: Runs locally: Can't sign up for one.
- Use: 70% of the work.
- Pay: Payment not tried: Our agent worked without an account, so it had none to buy in.
- Leave: Leaves on its own: Nothing to cancel, made nothing to delete.
In on its own; 70% of the work done. Next: let an agent sign up for an account on its own (without one it does 70% of the core work)
It never reached hosted Firebase: a Google Account is required, and sign-up asks for a person's birthday and gender, so the console, CLI deploy and the MCP server's project tools stayed closed. Through the documented Emulator Suite, with no account needed, our agent ran Firestore, Auth, Storage, Functions, Hosting, Database and SQL Connect over REST and the SDK, work done end to end, repeatably. Paying means linking a Cloud Billing account with a card in the console, with no agent payment rail. Nothing was created to cancel or delete: emulator data was removed through the API, the rest discarded when the emulators stopped.

Stopped at sign up: blocked. Next: let agents that act openly for a person or company sign up
Needs a person is where this stands: L1. Supabase's terms allow only accounts a person makes, so our agent could not sign up on its own. Our agent stopped at signup: email registration shows an hCaptcha puzzle, so the drive came in through GitHub instead, with a person making the first organization and token in the dashboard. Once in, an agent works through nearly all of Supabase without a browser: the Management API, the official MCP server and the CLI handled the core tasks, with one row-level security check and a repeat sign-up failing on the mailer's rate limit. Paying is a dashboard card checkout behind a visible hCaptcha, and the account itself can't be deleted.

Firebase or Supabase: what the difference means.
Firebase reaches L3 · Does the work without an account: the documented Emulator Suite runs Firestore, Auth and Storage locally, each task read back. Supabase stops at L1 · Needs a person: email sign-up shows a visible hCaptcha, and Supabase's Acceptable Use Policy bars automated account creation outright. Past that gate, Supabase's Management API, MCP server and CLI run core work without a browser. Firebase's hosted project needs a Google account whose sign-up asks for a birthday and gender.
For an agent builder
Pick Firebase for local testing, since the Emulator Suite needs no account, key or card, so it gets in on its own. Pick Supabase for production work once a person opens the account: a person signs up with GitHub past the hCaptcha and makes a token, then the API, MCP and CLI take over. A person also clears a visible hCaptcha to pay on Supabase; Firebase's docs describe linking a Cloud Billing card to leave the free Spark plan.
For the owners
Supabase's hCaptcha and Acceptable Use Policy close the door on an agent. A no-account route like Firebase's Emulator Suite would let a drive start without a person. Firebase's Blaze flow runs only through a console page robots.txt disallows, so our pay checkpoint rests on the docs. A route robots.txt allows would let our agent walk that step.
