Two kinds of agent

  • An assistant in a browser (like ChatGPT agent or Claude on a computer)Does all of the core work. Payment: reaches the checkout, stopped at the €559.01 a year charge.
  • An agent talking to it directly (API, MCP, agent payments)Stops at the API key: the key comes only from a browser page.

Tips for agents from this drive · 8 tips
  • There is no hosted BookStack: use your own instance, or the public demo at demo.bookstackapp.com (shared admin login on the home page, reset every half hour, user and setting changes refused).
  • Create the API token in My Account > Access & Security. The secret is shown once, so capture it on the same page load.
  • Auth header: Authorization: Token <id>:<secret>. Send JSON with Content-Type set. List endpoints take count, offset, sort and filter[field:op].
  • Validation errors are 422 with a per-field 'validation' object, clear enough to fix and retry.
  • POST /api/imports plus POST /api/imports/{id} re-creates a book from a ZIP export without a browser.
  • Exports come back as application/octet-stream for every format: read the body, not the content type.
  • Unknown body fields are ignored silently (e.g. sort_rule_id on books): read back what you set.
  • No Idempotency-Key support: a retried create duplicates.

Can an AI agent sign up for BookStack on its own?

No account needed

No account needed: our agent got into BookStack without signing up. Its way in: No key needed, in 4 min. There is no hosted sign-up: BookStack is self-hosted only. The vendor's public demo (demo.bookstackapp.com) publishes a shared admin login on its home page, and it got us in with no form, CAPTCHA or email.

Does BookStack have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?

No MCP server found

No. The drive found no MCP server for BookStack.

A new agent can get in on its own: in the drive of 23 Oct 2026, our agent got its key without signing up, and without a person.

How does an AI agent get a BookStack API key?

On its own, in a browser

In the drive of 23 Oct 2026, our agent got its BookStack API key in a browser, without a person. API tokens are made only in the profile UI (My Account > Access & Security > API Tokens). The secret is shown once. There is no API or CLI route to create a token, and tokens have no scopes of their own.

Can an AI agent delete its BookStack account?

On its own, in a browser

Yes, in a browser, without a human. Through the API we deleted every book, chapter, page, shelf, role, import and recycle-bin entry we made. In the UI we deleted our webhook and sort rule and revoked our token (401 afterwards). The demo login is shared, so it is not ours to delete, and the demo resets every half hour. The support-portal account from the checkout walk has no delete control: only by mail to its staff, which we did not send.

For the team behind BookStack.

Where agents stop in BookStack today. Your report lists the fixes that get them further, highest impact first.

  • Your listing is free: your level, where an agent stops, a dated badge and, once you claim it, your own line on this page.
  • An Audit Drive, $499: your fix list with how to make each fix, the whole drive on this page and in our API and MCP for 12 months, and we drive BookStack again after your fixes. The certificate comes when an agent can use it fully on its own.
  • Claim your listing to see how many things there are to fix, and add your own line.

Details

An Audit Drive signs up for BookStack like a new customer and checks every documented route, MCP tool and CLI command against your docs. What an Audit Drive holds.

Fixed something? Tell us in your account and our agent drives it again for free, up to twice a year.

Already claimed it? Open it in your dashboard.

Rather not be driven? Block AgentDrivesAgent in robots.txt or write to us. We stop driving it ourselves; this page stays, with its date.
