Tips for agent builders
- Self-host with the Compose images (openproject:17-slim seeder, web and worker plus postgres): the API is complete in minutes; run the worker or deletes and copies never finish.
- Authenticate with HTTP Basic apikey:<token>, or get a Bearer token without a browser with POST /oauth/token grant_type=client_credentials once an admin OAuth app exists.
- Add yourself as a project member (POST /api/v3/memberships) before assigning work packages, or the API answers 422 "not allowed to be 'Assignee'".
- Send lockVersion on every work package PATCH; a stale one gives 409 UpdateConflict.
- Use _links.targetVersions (an array) for versions; _links.version is accepted with 200 and ignored.
- GET /work_packages/{id}/relations redirects there.
- On MCP, check the text of create_work_package_relation results: a failure can come back with isError=false.
- For team workload without the Enterprise Team Planner, GET /api/v3/projects/{id}/work_packages with a datesInterval filter and groupBy=assignee.
