Appwrite

appwrite.io

Appwrite is a backend service for apps.

Can an AI agent use Appwrite? No, its robots.txt says no. Appwrite's robots.txt disallows AI agents on sign-up, so our agent didn't sign up on its own.

From finding it to leaving

What an agent managed without a person, at each step.

  1. Find

    On its own

Docs it can act on: llms.txt, an OpenAPI and an MCP server. 588 doc pages read.

  2. Get in

Tips for agent builders

From this drive

6 tips
  1. Appwrite Cloud is closed to agent sign-up by robots.txt; for your own copy, run the self-hosted edition (appwrite/appwrite image) and create the console account with POST /v1/account using project console
  2. On self-hosted, use the local MCP server: pip/uvx mcp-server-appwrite with APPWRITE_ENDPOINT, APPWRITE_PROJECT_ID and APPWRITE_API_KEY; it speaks MCP 2026-07-28 over stdio
  3. With the MCP server, call appwrite_search_tools first to get the hidden tool name, then appwrite_call_tool with confirm_write true for writes
  4. Use custom row ids instead of ID.unique when you may retry: a repeat then returns 409 row_already_exists instead of a duplicate
  5. Columns and indexes are created asynchronously (202, status processing): poll the columns list until status is available before writing rows
  6. In CLI 28.9.0 use appwrite client --endpoint --project-id --key for browser-free work and push tables|buckets --all --force; there is no deploy command

Questions people ask about Appwrite

Can an AI agent sign up for Appwrite on its own?
No. Sign-up: blocked. robots.txt disallows sign-up for AI agents (/sign-up): the groups ChatGPT-User, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended (and *) all carry Disallow: /sign-up and /sign-in. cloud.appwrite.io/console/register redirects to appwrite.io. No documented sign-up API.
Does Appwrite have an MCP server, and can an agent connect to it?
Yes. Appwrite has an official MCP server. The server signs an agent in with OAuth. A new agent can't get in on its own: in the drive of 27 Oct 2026, our agent stopped at sign up (it was blocked).
Can an AI agent delete its Appwrite account?
Not applicable: our agent used Appwrite without an account.
